Dam Closings Prompt Protest
Frustrated with water managers' plans to temporarily close two dams and shut off water flow to Lake Griffin, critics are hoping to mount a show of opposition at an upcoming legislative summit.
The St. Johns River Water Management District recently announced that it will close the dam at the Apopka-Beauclair Canal and the Burrell dam on Haines Creek starting Dec. 8 and continuing as late as April 30, just as it did a year ago. The district also will reduce water flow at the Moss Bluff dam in Marion County.
